Celebration of SFD at PHPA-I, Bjimthangkha

Social Forestry Day is observed across all institutions in Bhutan since 1985, coinciding with the Coronation Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. As every year, this year too, the Social Forestry Day was observed by PHPA-I Management & Officials with the planting of tree saplings, hedges, stem cuttings, and broadcasting of grass seeds to re-vegetate the Muck Disposal site of HRT Adit I in Khuma.

One truckload of Erythrina indica stem cuttings, 30Kgs of grass seeds with urea and cow manure, 9 species of 60 ornamental plants, and half a truckload of hedges of 3 varieties were planted at Khuma by about 100 officials.

PHPA-I also took the opportunity of the auspiciousness of June 2nd to kick off the “Plogging” = Picking litter + Jogging, a concept that aims to encourage regular exercise and to make people responsible about litter as is initiated by Yellow Bhutan as a tribute for Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen’s Birthday and the World Environment Day. The Management & Officials started off at 8:45AM from Bjimthangkha township and picked up trash/ litter thrown along the entire stretch of 3KM approach road till Highway junction. Residents nearby were advocated on the importance of cleanliness and to be mindful of littering.

In adherence to the notification of Wangdue Dzongkhag Administration, PHPA-I has adopted the 3KM approach road to Bjimthangkha to ensure its cleanliness and plant additional trees alongside. The Environment Division will initiate regular cleaning along this stretch of road and maintain the greenery.

The Management thanked all the Officials for their support, cooperation, and relentless effort to keep the Project area clean and green.

The SFD was led by the Project’s Environment Division. The Project’s Lam and a 91 year old senior citizen were invited to grace the plantations.
